So, I got the album from the Pretty Reckless, not because they make great music, mostly because the pair of songs they've put out over the last year or so had been bombarding me everywhere I turned (hell, it was even on the Kickass soundtrack). I never knew who Taylor Momsen was, apparently she was on a few shows, etc. etc, but I decided to give the album a good listen to figure out if it could stand on it's own merits.
It's an okay album, not a great album, not a good album. It's one of those albums that you forget you have and a few months later it randomly comes on your playlist and you think "Hey, I remember this" and dig it for a few songs. Then you remember why you stopped listening to it.
The songs are solid from what I figure is a technical standpoint. Well played instruments, well polished album, good sounds, etc. etc. But the topics of the songs, sex, drugs, murder, suicide, all the usual core of topics that fill some of the heavier rock albums, just seem a bit forced in the round peg square hole sort of way. Especially when it's coming from a seventeen year old, hundred pound blond girl who appears to have just recently discovered black leather and eyeliner.
Technically a good album, bleh songs, overall okay.
I don't regret buying the album, but I figure I'll give a few more listen to's and then move on.
